Ukraine parliament appoints Koval as acting defense minister

As many as 251 lawmakers with 226 required votes supported the specific resolution

KIEV, March 25. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, appointed Mikhailo Koval as acting defense minister of the country on Tuesday.

As many as 251 lawmakers with 226 required votes supported the specific resolution.

“If the leadership has other position on developments and if the leadership has other candidates for this post, I file resignation,” Tenyukh said from the parliament rostrum.

First parliamentary attempt to accept Tenyukh’s resignation failed, as only 197 lawmakers supported this decision. After consultations with lawmakers a resolution on relieving the acting defence minister from the post was put for voting again.

Tenyukh was named as acting defense minister on February 27. As many as 326 lawmakers voted for the decision then.

Colonel General Koval, 56, is the director of the department for work with military staff in Ukrainian state border service.
