"Society should be given an answer over details of this grave crime," the party's press service said in a statement

KIEV, March 12. /ITAR-TASS/. The faction of the Party of Regions in Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, initiates the formation of a temporary parliamentary investigative committee to look into shooting from sniper rifles at protesters and law enforcers at massive riots in Kiev, the Party of Regions press service told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

“According to the Ukrainian Constitution, a person, his life and health, honor and dignity, inviolability and safety are recognized in the country as the highest social value. However, on February 18-22 the Ukrainian society and world community were shocked by facts of shooting at people and law enforcers by unidentified criminals in the centre of the Ukrainian capital,” the faction stated.

Meanwhile, the Party of Regions noted that “statements from particular politicians and video footage posted on web resources arouse even more questions showing that the same person wages precise fire at protesters and law enforcers”. “It is quite clear that such actions were taken on concrete orders and resulted from several organizational steps (provision with sniper rifles, special communication means, the selection of a fire spot etc.),” deputies noted.

“The telephone conversation between European foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet, which leaked to the Internet resources, and the authenticity of which was actually confirmed later in a statement by Estonian Foreign Ministry, showed that the global community is also concerned over protracting investigation of these facts,” they recalled. “Meanwhile, a conclusion can be drawn from this conversation that European politicians believe that representatives of new Ukrainian authorities may be involved in precise fire from sniper rifles. Society should be given an answer over details of this grave crime, those guilty should be punished according to the law,” the Party of Regions press service noted.
