Ukraine’s TV and radio council urges to suspend rebroadcasting of Russian TV channels

KIEV, March 08, 3:54 /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine’s national council on television and radio broadcasting on Friday called on Ukrainian provides to temporarily suspend rebroadcasting of Russian television channels Vesti, Russia-24, ORT, and RTR Planeta.

“Taking into account instructions from the Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council of March 6, 2014 and its resolution of March 1, 2014 on urgent measures on ensuring national security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, the Ukrainian national council on television and radio broadcasting calls of providers of the programme services to temporarily refrain from rebroadcasting through their networks television channels Vesti, Russia-24, ORT and RTR Planeta until their progammes are adapted to the requirement of the Ukrainian legislation. The state must stabilize the situation in all regions and ensure interests of all communities,” the council said in a statement posted on its official website.

The council asked Ukraine’s television audience “to take this temporary step with understanding.” “We hope all players on the Ukrainian media market will show civic responsibility,” the statement said.
