Obama orders to sanction Russian officials undermining democratic institutions in Ukraine
The White House noted in its message that it is ready to consider further steps and sanctions if needed and with regard to the developments in Ukrain
WASHINGTON, March 6. /ITAR-TASS/. The White House has announced on Thursday that President Barak Obama issued an executive order introducing sanctions against Russian officials and organizations "threatening sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine".
In particular, visa restrictions are introduced for individuals "responsible for undermining democratic institutions in Ukraine".
The US-based assets of those individuals will be frozen.
The statement says that the measure is “a versatile tool that will allow introducing sanctions against those who are most directly involved in destabilizing Ukraine, including the military intervention in Crimea”.
The message says that the decision does not preclude further steps should the situation deteriorate.
