BANGKOK, March 6. /ITAR-TASS/. Thai authorities have filed a request to the country’s Constitutional Court demanding to declare illegal the anti-government protest rallies that are continuing in Bangkok for already four months.

Evidence that the rallies were anti-governmental and not peaceful has been passed to the court. The case materials include some 27 thousand pages. Earlier, the Constitutional Court of Thailand banned the police from “applying force for dispersing peaceful demonstrations”, despite the fact that the state of emergency is introduced in Bangkok and neighboring provinces.

The department of special investigations noted that on Wednesday the Criminal Court of Bangkok issued the third warrant to arrest the protesters’ leader Suthep Thaugsuban. The opposition leader, who previously was vice-prime minister, didn’t appear in court for the official arraignment accusing him of homicide and incitement to mass homicide with regard to the case on dispersal of mass rally in 2010, when 92 people were killed in Bangkok. The non-attendance of the suspect became the reason to issue another warrant for Thaugsban’s arrest.

Two previous warrants were issued upon charges of treason and breach of emergency rule. However, Suthep Thaugsuban is at liberty, and constantly accompanied by several dozens of bodyguards. He actively engages in politics, since the police, after the corresponding ruling of the Constitutional Court, cannot even approach him.

Meanwhile, the situation in Bangkok, where the oppositionists lifted the blockade from key crossroads on Monday, has gradually stabilized. The protesters moved to Lumpini Park, comfortable for mounting defense. This regrouping made the night attacks on protesters’ positions by unidentified people almost impossible.

The oppositionists continue to hold rallies every day, marching towards different state offices. At nights, they arrange noisy shows for their supporters. Owners of many condominiums in the Lumpini area started to employ armed guards to ensure the residents’ safety.
