John Kerry arrives in Kiev for consultations on financial aid

The US considers the possibility of providing Ukraine credit warrantees in the amount of $1 billion

KIEV, March 4. /ITAR-TASS/. US State Secretary John Kerry has arrived in Kiev on Tuesday. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reports that in the course of the day, he will discuss the domestic political situation in Ukraine with Verkhovna Rada speaker and interim president Oleksandr Turchynov and prime minister appointed by the country’s parliament Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

Ukraine expects from his visit “that the American side would confirm its stance of guarantor of the country’s safety and territorial integrity,” head of informational policy department of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yevgen Perebyinis said.

“It is expected that the US would support the Ukrainian people’s striving for developing a democratic European state, confirm their firm stance as of a guarantor of Ukraine’s safety and territorial integrity, which the American side fulfills since our state resigned from nuclear arms,” the Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson said.

Aside from the situation in the country, Kerry will discuss with Ukrainian leadership the issue of providing financial aid, which, according to recent US statements, may amount to $1 billion.

The US considers the possibility of providing Ukraine credit warrantees in the amount of $1 billion, Kerry said in a statement on the previous week. He added that an option of providing Kiev with other types of direct financial support was also being considered.
