Sevastopol mayor orders to set up prosecutor's office

SEVASTOPOL, March 04. /ITAR-TASS/. Sevastopol's coordinating council has ordered to set up a city prosecutor's office, the press secretary of the council for organizing city management and ensuring life-support of the city told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

The order was given by the council’s chairman, new mayor Aleksei Chalyi. An acting prosecutor was also appointed.

The order was signed on March 3, the press secretary said.

At the same time, a statement appeared on the official website of the city prosecutor's office saying that the self-declared mayor's order was illegitimate.

Under the Ukrainian law, only the Ukrainian prosecutor general and nobody else has the right to set up or reorganize a prosecutor's office and appoint heads of the offices, the statement on the official website noted.
