Greek FM calls for organization of international conference on Ukraine
Greece’s Foreign Minister says that Ukrainian-Russian relations are of great importance not only for the region, but for European and international stability
KIEV, March 03. /ITAR-TASS/. Greece’s Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos has called for an international conference to offer emergency financial assistance to Ukraine.
The foreign minister voiced the position after his meeting on Sunday with the Verkhovna Rada’s speaker, appointed Acting President Oleksandr Turchynov and Acting Foreign Minister Andrei Deshchitsa.
“The most vital problem now is the economic crisis,” Venizelos said. “We are ready to translate suggestions on how the international community may assist Ukraine but without limitation of the involvement of the International Monetary Fund.”
“My personal suggestion is that we should organize an international conference on the issue to offer without delay an approach [to offer the assistance]. Surely, Greece is ready to offer its know-how to Ukraine, minding its experience in the crisis.”
“The meeting I had with Ukraine’s acting president and simultaneously with the foreign minister has helped me to understand better the situation and to give to them a signal both from Greece and from the European Union. As a country presiding at the EU, Greece supports the territorial integrity, independence, sovereignty and existing borders of Ukraine, as we are following the foreign policy based on respect for the international law.”
“We are interested in stability and security for all people. We would like the transition government to involve all political forces and regions in the country.”
Evangelos Venizelos continued saying “the Ukraine-Russian relations are of great importance not only for the region, but for the entire European and international stability."
