Crimea’s authorities to use experience of Scotland, Catalonia in preparing referendum
MOSCOW, March 02, 22:06 /ITAR-TASS/. Authorities of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea plan using the experience gained by Scotland and Catalonia as they prepare a referendum on the political future of their region, Moscow-based NTV channel said quoting a source in the government of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
Officials in Crimea are confident this will mean that the campaign, the goal of which is to revise the status of the region upwards to a full-fledged state from an autonomous entity, will be conducted in line with all the norms accepted in the current European regional policies.
In Scotland, a referendum on sovereignty from Britain that was initiated by the Scottish National Party is scheduled for September 18.
In Catalonia, a referendum on sovereignty from Spain is due to be held November 9.
