Ruling party office guard killed in Kiev

Rampant protesters killed a guard after setting fire to the ruling party's office, the leader of the party’s parliamentary faction said Tuesday

KIEV, February 18. /ITAR-TASS/. Rampant protesters have killed a guard who protected the Party of Region’s office in central Kiev, Alexander Yefremov, the leader of the party’s parliamentary faction, told a briefing on Tuesday.

“When the protesters set the office on fire, the guard begged them to let women out. But the radicals killed him. The fate of another guard is unknown,” Yefremov said.

Earlier on Tuesday, rescuers found a dead man’s body in the devastated party office which protesters had set on fire.

Seven fire crews from various parts of Kiev left for 10, Lipskaya Street upon receiving a fire alarm signal. Two fire crews were stopped by protesters on Kiev’s Shelkovichnaya Street. They threatened to inflict bodily harm to the fire-fighters and set two tanker-trucks on fire, Ukraine’s State Service for Emergency Situations reports.

“The fire crews reached the Party of Regions headquarters against all the odds and saved 15 people who were on the roof. The firefighters also found a man’s body. According to preliminary information, it was said to belong to an office employee,” the State Service for Emergency Situations said.
