Protests in Kiev are engulfing more streets of the government quarter

KIEV, February 18. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukrainian interior troops did not receive an order for use of weapons against participants of protest actions, the press service of the country’s interior troops reported, dismissing information from lawmaker Andrei Senchenko, who claimed that this order was given by Commander of the country’s interior troops Lieutenant General Stanislav Shulyak.

“We remind you once again that servicemen of the country’s interior troops, who guard public order in the government compound, do not have firearms,” the press service noted.

Meanwhile, protests in Kiev are engulfing more streets of the government quarter, and clashes are currently underway on Sadovaya Street, adjoining Hrushevskogo Street, the hub of the violence.

Protesters have set ablaze wheels of three trucks belonging to law enforcers. They are also dismantling the stone-block pavement, throwing stones at police, who retaliate with gas and stun grenades.

At the same time, police have managed to force protesters away from the central office of the ruling Party of Regions, situated nearby, on Lipskaya Street. Earlier, the office burned out partially after protesters had pelted it with several Molotov cocktails.
