Russia's Foreign Minister added that the Syrian government was prepared to discuss the implementation of the Geneva communiqué in full

MOSCOW, February 14. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia has the impression that in persuading Syria’s external opposition to join the Geneva-2 conference its sponsors had in mind only the replacement of the regime, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on Friday.

“They are prepared to discuss other issues, in the first place, the struggle against terrorism, only after a transitional body is created, because ‘in the field’ government troops are confronted with armed opposition,” he said.

Lavrov added that the Syrian government was prepared to discuss the implementation of the Geneva communiqué in full.

“It’s counterproductive” to take out one point on a transition governing body from the Geneva document, Lavrov said.

“We’ll insist what was agreed earlier should be implemented. This is the part of the communiqué saying a representative delegation of the opposition should be involved in the process,” he said.
