TOKYO, February 13, 6:02 /ITAR-TASS/. Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe plans to settle the issue of a peace treaty with Russia within his premiership term.
“I am positive this issue should be settled while I am the country’s prime minister,” he told a meeting of the budget commission at the parliament’s lower house.
Shinzo Abe became prime minister in December 2012. Japan has elections to the parliament’s lower house every four years. The elections decide leader of what party becomes the prime minister. Thus, a prime minister may keep the position until his party wins the elections.
