KIEV, February 09, /ITAR-TASS/. About 6,000 protesters have gathered in Kiev’s central Independence Square, or Maidam, for a so-called Popular Veche (assembly), spokeswoman for the Ukrainian interior ministry Olga Bilyk said on Sunday.

“As of now, there are about 6,000 people in the square,” she said.

Today’s action is the tenth one since the beginning of mass protests in Ukraine in late November. The Sunday Popular Veche started with a public prayer. Leaders of the Ukrainian opposition, Arseniy Yatsenyuk of the parliamentary faction of the Batkivshchina (Fatherland) party, Vitaliy Klitschko of the UDAR party and Oleg Tyagnibok of the Svoboda (Freedom) party, are expected to address the protesters.
