At Sochi Olympics, Georgia will be represented only by its sport delegation, Margvelashvili’s foreign affairs adviser Vano Machavariani said

TBILISI, February 07. /ITAR-TASS/. Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili made his first comment on Friday following a statement by the Russian president’s press officer Dmitry Peskov that the possibility of his meeting with Vladimir Putin in Sochi should not to be excluded.

“This is a theoretical question. Surely, if there is a serious statement, we’ll answer it,” Margvelashvili told journalists, asking them to address further questions to his press officer Tinatin Mzhavanadze.

She, in turn, said that neither the Georgian president’s visit to Sochi nor his presence at the Olympics were under consideration at the moment. Although Peskov’s answer to journalists was the meeting was not excluded, the Georgian presidential administration had no official information to this effect, “accordingly, it did not even consider the issue”.

A similar statement was made a day before by Margvelashvili’s foreign affairs adviser Vano Machavariani, who said “Georgian state delegation is not coming to the Sochi Olympics in any form, and the president’s position on this issue is quite clear”.

“At Sochi Olympics, Georgia will be represented only by its sport delegation — athletes and heads of the National Olympic Committee,” he said.

Peskov mentioned the possibility of a meeting between the two leaders on February 6 in reply to a question from Itar-Tass in Sochi.
