South Korea expects to reach an agreement with North Korea this year to begin the project implementation

SEOUL, February 06. /ITAR-TASS/. South Korea plans to lobby for a project to lay out a park of peace in the demilitarized zone at the border between North and the South Korea.

Seoul intends to discuss it in talks with Pyongyang, the Ministry of Unification said on Thursday.

South Korea expects to reach an agreement with North Korea this year to begin the project implementation, the ministry said.

South Korean President Park Geun-hye last year put forth the idea of park construction in the buffer zone that is four km wide and 248 km long. According to experts, the project implementation will ease tension on the Korean Peninsula.

The South Korean parliament earmarks 30.2 bln won ($28.7 mln) for the project. The construction is impossible without the participation of North Korea and the U.N. force, which monitors the compliance with the truce which ended the 1950-53 Korean war, Yonhap says.
