BANGKOK, February 4. /ITAR-TASS/. US embassy in Bangkok has published on Thursday on its website a statement of US State Department representative Jen Psaki warning Thai military from another coup attempt.

This warning to the main strategic partner in South-Eastern Asia was voiced by Washington amid the riots continuing for already three months in the capital, which could not be stopped even by early parliamentary elections that took place in the first Sunday of February.

In the last 82 years, since the first Constitution was adopted, Thailand suffered 18 state coups carried out mainly by the army. The most recent one took place September 19, 2006. In the recent days, the army’s commander in chief Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha stated that he does not rule out such a possibility again.

Then, in 2006, in response to army’s seizure of power in Thailand, the US announced about suspending military aid to the country and urged the coupists to return power to a legally elected president within a year.

The 18th Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand came in force by will of the monarch only in 2010, and democratic votes took place in 2011. They brought victory to the currently ruling Pheu Thai (“For the Thai”) party and allowed its candidate, Yingluck Shinawatra, the younger sister of ex-premier Taksin Shinawatra who was overthrown by the army in 2006, to become prime minister.
