GENEVA, January 31. /ITAR-TASS/. The Syrian opposition will attend the second round of intra-Syrian talks in Geneva next month, the head of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces (NCSROF) confirmed Friday.

“We adhere to the provisions of the Geneva Communiqué and will take part in the second round of talks,” Ahmad Jarba said after the first round.

The Geneva Communiqué (or Geneva-1 Communiqué) was adopted on June 30, 2012 at a conference of an “action group” on Syria in Geneva. That conference is now commonly referred to as “Geneva-1.”

A logical continuation of Geneva-1, the Geneva-2 international peace conference on Syria opened on January 22, 2014 in the Swiss city of Montreux. The first round of Geneva-2 ended on Friday in Geneva with no particular progress. The sides took a pause for consultations and are expected to resume talks on February 10.

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem told a news conference on Friday that the lack of progress at the conference was due to a difficult atmosphere created by the United States and the opposition’s unserious attitude.

Geneva-2 seeks to negotiate a solution to the Syrian crisis, which has claimed over 100,000 lives and displaced millions since its start in 2011.

The NCSROF leader is today heading for Munich that hosts an international security conference, where he is expected to meet with US Secretary of State John Kerry. On February 4, Jarba is to arrive in Moscow for talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
