Damage to buildings, roads in downtown Kiev reach about 2 million dollars
It will take several weeks to restore the city
KIEV, January 29. /ITAR-TASS/. Damage caused to buildings and roads in downtown Kiev during mass riots reached about 2.5 million dollars, Kiev First Deputy Mayor Anatoly Golubchenko said.
“The sum of 2.5 million dollars is only a fleeting glance at buildings and parks. An account has been drawn up to organizers of rallies in support of the government. But no one takes responsibility for damage on Independence Square and Grushevsky Street,” the first deputy mayor said.
After almost two months of protest actions several buildings on Grushevsky Street and Muzeiniy Lane were burnt away. The fire caused considerable damage to the Locks on Kiev’s Bridge. Trees at the Mariinsky and City Parks were burned. The road pavement was broken into pieces and used as tools against the Berkut units.
The Mayor’s Office reports that it will take several weeks to restore the city. Damage caused to cultural facilities should be still estimated, it adds.
