MOSCOW, January 28. /ITAR-TASS/. Visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen discussed prospects for development of Russia-NATO relations, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated on Tuesday.

“Problematic issues and prospects for development of Russia-NATO relations were discussed. Lavrov noted the need to translate into life joint decisions on shaping a common space of peace, security and stability in Euro-Atlantic region,” the ministry said.

The negotiators also noted “importance of ensuring for these ends the principles of true equity and indivisibility of security proclaimed in the fundamental documents of the Russia-NATO Council approved by the heads of state.” The interlocutors said “the sides are prepared to keep searching for solutions on missile defense in this spirit, build up trust and predictability in military and political affairs, consistently step up cooperation in response to common risks and security threats - terrorism, piracy, natural and manmade disasters and on Afghanistan,” the Foreign Ministry added.

Meanwhile, the negotiators “exchanged views on topical issues of international agenda, particularly capabilities to assist to a mission of the United Nations Organization and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to destroy Syrian chemical weapons in the interests of fulfilling U.N.
