BANGKOK, January 28. /ITAR-TASS/. In Bangkok, overnight on Tuesday, attacks on antigovernment protesters that keep occupying the city’s downtown were reported again. According to the police, as a result, one person was killed and another one was injured.

Tuesday morning, on one of Bangkok’s streets police found a body of a man with several gun wounds. According to the police, the victim has not been identified yet. However, judging from his outfit, he was a participant of the protest movement. Thai oppositionists wear t-shorts with different slogans and tie up their hands and heads with bands in colors of the national flag.

Another act of violence was reported on Tuesday near the camp of the opposition’s student wing. An unidentified person threw on the protesters a self-made explosive device, which wounded one person. He was rushed to hospital. In addition, an explosion occurred near the house of one of the protesters’ leaders Samran Rodphet in Bangkok. No casualties were reported following the incident.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday acting Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will meet with head of the country’s election commission to discuss the issue of postponing the date of elections to the National Assembly of Thailand. The oppositionists strive for cancellation of these elections. Thai media reported with reference to sources close to the matter that Shinawatra does not intend to cancel the elections and may offer the election commission to do it independently. Earlier, the Constitutional Court confirmed the commission’s authority to postpone the voting date by its own decision disregarding the government’s opinion.

On Monday, leader of the oppositionist Democratic Party Abhisit Vejjajiva, whose political alliance is currently boycotting the elections, told journalists that “the Democratic Party could consider the issue of its participation in the election process in case of setting a new date of elections.”
