MONTREUX, January 22. /ITAR-TASS/. Head of the Syrian opposition National Coalition Ahmed al-Jarba has accused Damascus of violating human rights.

“Initially, manifestations were exclusively peaceful. Today we’re representing Syria,” al-Jarba said.

“I believe that the events in Syria mean no people want to keep power in their hands,” the opposition leader said.

A total of 11,000 people were killed in Syria, he said, adding “They lost lives in concentration camps.”

“We’ve to bear arms due to the authorities’ actions. Mass killings continue in Syria. Can one stand? This is not our choice to bear arms. The Syrian regime imposed this on us,” al-Jarba said.

“The army continues to kill the free Syrian people,” he said.

“The Geneva II Conference will give a chance to settle the crisis by peaceful means. It’s necessary to do everything possible to make the forum successful,” the Syrian opposition leader said.

“We’ve gathered to discuss the situation in order to resolve the conflict by peaceful means. We can’t waste the time. There is no time to lose,” he said.

Al-Jarba called for giving power in Syria to a transition government. “The Sword of Damocles has been hung over Syria. Every minute blood is being shed,” he said.
