Syria foreign minister urges international community to stop support to armed opposition
“Syria is a sovereign country and will do what we find needed for the interests of Syrian people,” Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said
MONTREUX, January 22. /ITAR-TASS/. Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem urged international community “to stop supporting armed opposition” in the country.
“If you are really concerned over humanitarian situation in Syria, let us act properly,” Muallem said, opening the international conference dubbed Geneva II in Switzerland’s Montreux on Wednesday.
“Syria is a sovereign country and will do what we find needed for the interests of Syrian people,” the Syrian foreign minister noted.
The Syrian foreign minister doubts that the opposition has a constructive agenda for resolution of the crisis.
The Wahhabites seek to throw Syria back in the past, they almost do not have any ties with Syria, Walid Muallem said.
“They rape women, kill children, cut heads and place them in the streets,” he listed the crimes of extremists.
Muallem also criticized those who come out against the government under the disguise of slogans of “great Syrian revolution” and their foreign sponsors. “They have put the country in the dirt, but now the masks are torn off, we see what they were seeking for, they want to fan up tension in the country, pump petrodollars in mercenaries, act as barbarians and cover themselves by the goals of Syrian revolution,” he said.
The minister blamed Turkish government for deteriorated situation over Syria. “Syria has suffered a strike in the back from its neighbors. Erdogan’s government let the terrorists go on their land,” Muallem said.
