CSTO University League to be created in 2014

Its objective is to consolidate member states intellectual potential

MOSCOW, January 17. /ITAR-TASS/. The University League of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) will be created in the first half of 2014, Vice President of the Eurasian Economic Club of Scientists (EECS) Association, Rector of the Urals State University of Economics Mikhail Fyodorov told Itar-Tass after a meeting with CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha.

The League founding documents are planned to be signed during the 5th Eurasian Economic Youth Forum in Yekaterinburg on April 22.

According to Fyodorov, the main objective of the League will be the consolidation of the intellectual forces and coordination of activities for the comprehensive and successful co-operation of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation member states. The League should ensure comprehensive, systematic scientific and methodological support for the development of the international Eurasian community in the spheres of the economy, science and technology, legal fundamentals and the philosophy of human life.

The League’s supreme body will be the Supreme Council, headed by the CSTO secretary general. Its main functional units will be security institutions. Each institution will be organised at one of the universities, which will be the head responsible coordinator in its sphere - economic, financial, food, transport, energy, information and resource security, as well as in a number of others. “The League does not aim to include a large number of universities. Not many of them will be members, only the best national universities,” said Fyodorov.

According to him, membership in the League is open not only to universities, but also to all the CSTO countries’ organisations, enterprises and structures whose activities are related to security.

The CSTO is a military-political alliance created by a number of Eurasian states under the Collective Security Treaty (CST), signed on 15 May 1992. At different times, the organisation’s members were from six to nine countries. The alliance currently brings together Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. Since April 2013, Serbia and Afghanistan have the observer status at the CSTO.

The Eurasian Economic Youth Forum is an international youth movement, initiative association of intellectual youth of different countries with the participation of a number of Russian universities - Moscow State University (MSU), MGIMO, People's Friendship University, Urals State University of Economics (USUE) and other universities. The form is held since 2009 at the USUE venue in Yekaterinburg and in Astana. It is held under the auspices of the Eurasian Economic Club of Scientists, with the support of the administrations of the Russian president and Kazakh president, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, a number of ministries of Kazakhstan, the staff of the Sverdlovsk region governor, the government of the Sverdlovsk region and Administration of Yekaterinburg. The 5th, jubilee forum will bring together talented students, postgraduate students and young scientists from more than 70 countries.
