GENEVA, January 17. /ITAR-TASS/. Preparations for the Geneva II conference on a peaceful resolution of the Syrian conflict that will be opened in the Swiss town of Montreux on January 22 have entered the final stage. The European office of the United Nations, which, along with Switzerland, acts as the forum’s organizer, the list of speakers had already been opened for record.

It is already known that Swiss President Didier Burkhalter will be the first to address the audience. He will turn the floor over to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry as the initiators of Geneva II will speak after the UN head. The Syrian sides - representatives of the government and opposition, as well as the foreign ministers of the meeting participants, have also prepared speeches. Invitations to attend the meeting have been sent to 30 capitals.

“The forum will be held in all six official UN languages — Arabic, English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian and Spanish, the interpreters are ready to go,” the chief of the United Nations Information Service in Geneva, Corinne Momal-Vanian, told Itar-Tass. According to her, briefings and short conversations of the meeting participants with reporters are planned during the day. “Journalists will have no access to the hall at the Montreux Palace Hotel where the forum will be held. A large area for the press is equipped at the Congress Centre that is located nearby,” she said.

The speeches at the meeting in Montreux are expected to be concluded by the evening. After that, the participants in the peace forum on stopping the violence in Syria, which has been going on for almost three years, resulting in the deaths of more than 100 thousand people, will leave Montreux Palace. Moreover, the inter-Syrian negotiations with the support of the UN, U.S. and Russian sides will be launched in Geneva on January 24.
