Zarif: Moscow-Tehran relations help ensure security in region
Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful that is why the problem can be settled, the minister said
MOSCOW, January 16. /ITAR-TASS/. Relations between Moscow and Tehran help ensure security in the region, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said after talks with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Thursday.
“Relations between our countries are long-term and facilitate security in region. They play an important role in resolving international issues,” the Iranian minister said.
“Russia’s role is very important to solve Iran’s nuclear problem and create appropriate conditions for settling the Syrian conflict based on the people’s goodwill without the interference of external forces,” he said.
“Our countries cooperate in solving problems, which exist in the region (in Afghanistan and the Caspian Sea). During the meeting in Bishkek, Russian and Iranian Presidents, Vladimir Putin and Hassan Rouhani, determined the general line to develop relations between both countries,” Zarif said, adding, “The agreements and the dialogue between the presidents and foreign ministers facilitate the development of relations between the countries.”
Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful that is why the problem can be settled, the minister said.
“It is important for us to achieve progress in cooperation with Russia to solve Iran’s nuclear problem. We believe that are prerequisites for reaching a final agreement,” the Iranian minister said.
“The parties should not torpedo the Geneva agreements on the nuclear program,” he said.
“All parties should support the Geneva agreement and prevent from interpreting it. It is necessary to move forward to settle the situation based on the agreement,” Zarif said.
