GENEVA, December 31. /ITAR-TASS/. Considerable progress has been reached in the talks between Iran and the Sextet of international mediators (five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and Germany) that ended here on Tuesday, a source participating in the consultations told Itar-Tass.

“The talks will be continued with a common understanding that the Geneva agreements must come in force as soon as possible,” the source said.

The key goal of this one-day talks was to elaborate a detailed plan of the implementation of political agreements reached by a ministerial meeting in Geneva in late November, when many-day talks between the Sextet and Iran had yielded the so-called joint action plan.

Under the document geared for a period of six months, Teheran undertook not to enrich uranium to more than five percent, not to continue activities at the uranium enriching facility at Natanz, at the Fordo facility and the reactor at Arak, not to create new jobs at enriching facilities, and to allow large-scale inspections at its nuclear facilities by experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The Western countries, in turn, agreed to mitigate economic sanctions.

These agreements were seen as the “first step,” which is to be followed by a comprehensive agreement that would remove the world community’s worries about possible military uses of the Iranian nuclear program, on the one hand, and would do away with economic sanctions hindering Iran’s economic development, on the other hand.
