KIEV, December 29, 2:52 /ITAR-TASS/. The Pechersky district court in Kiev decided to take the fifth suspect detained for beating journalist Tatyana Chornovol into custody on December 28, the press service of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry reports.

“The fifth suspect was detained on Friday (December 27). The court chose arrest as a measure of restraint for him,” the Interior Ministry went on to say without specifying the period of the arrest.

The 34-year-old detainee is a law enforcer from Dneprodzerzhinsk, the Dnepropetrovsk region of Ukraine. He said he had come to Kiev to buy a Porsche Cayenne.

“Investigators are going to question all the suspects simultaneously in order to reconstruct the incident,” the Interior Ministry clarified.

Previously, the Pechersky district court in Kiev put the other four suspects of the brutal attack on Chornovol into custody for two months until February 23. They include Alexander Kotenko and Sergei Kotenko as well as Alexander Khramtsov and Andrei Nasikovsky.

The Ukrainian journalist was beaten up brutally on the night from December 24 to December 25. According to police, she was driving on the Kiev-Borispol highway in her car when she was cut off by another car. Unidentified people pulled her out of her car and beat her up. After that, they threw the car to the side drain.

Ukraine’s Interior Ministry reports that a pre-trial investigation has been launched on charges of hooliganism and infliction of bodily harm.

Police are considering several versions behind the attack, including the journalist’s professional activities; personal unfriendly relations and a road accident.
