ASTANA, December 26, /ITAR-TASS/. Kazakhstan has presented a Space Harbour tourism cluster project in the city of Baikonur, a space centre. The project that will give tourists a possibility to watch space launches was presented by chairman of Kazakhstan’s tourism industry committee Marat Igaliyev to head of the Russian Space Agency (Roscosmos) Oleg Ostapenko.

“The cluster will include office premises, a hotel complex, trading areas and entertainment zones,” he said. “The facilities will be covered by a transparent dome, so that people could watch space launches in safe and comfortable environment.”

According to Igaliyev, the project has already undergone management framework appraisal. Territory planning and construction works have already been launched. The Kazakh company Diamond Trans has already invested about one million U.S. dollars in the project.

“The Russian side expressed readiness to develop cooperation in the area of tourism. The Baikonur administration said it was ready to develop tour itineraries to the space pad and it looking at a possibility to organize a viewing point,” he said.

The sides agreed to hold another meeting in early 2014 to sign final documents in the area of tourism.
