PYONGYANG, December 25. /ITAR-TASS/. DPRK leader Kim Jong Un demanded that the armed forces increase combat readiness. This the North Korean leader said during a visit to one of the military units.

The inspection visit took place on the occasion of the 21 anniversary of the accession of Kim Jong Il in the post of Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army, KCNA news agency reported on Wednesday. In this occasion the supreme leader of the country visited the Kumsusan palace, where the tombs of his grandfather and father — Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il —are located.

The North Korean leader said that Kim Jong Il turned DPRK army into “invincible revolutionary armed forces, and under his leadership the country has become a global military superpower”.

As national newspaper Rodong Sinmun pointed out, only through military-oriented policy (Songun), which was developed during the leadership of Kim Jong Il, North Korea “manages to defend national sovereignty”. “In addition, the Songun is a reliable shield that allows ensuring peace and security on the Korean peninsula, and scuttling all the aggressive intentions of South Korean authorities and other external forces,” the newspaper notes.
