BEIRUT, December 20. /ITAR-TASS/. Syrian Kurds intend to take part in the Geneva II Peace Conference as a separate delegation.

A decision to this effect was taken by Syrian Kurds’ parties at a meeting at the Iraqi city of Erbil on Friday.

A member of the Kurdish Democratic Union, Abdelsalam Ahmed, said a decision had been taken “to convince the Geneva conference’s organizers to take part in the forum as a separate delegation, which will represent Kurds”.

“Nor the Syrian government neither the National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces have different positions on the Kurdish problem. They don’t recognize the basic rights of the Kurdish population - live on their land and have their own government,” Ahmed said.

Leader of the Democratic Progressive Party Abdelhamid Dervish said, “Kurds deserve to have their own delegation at the Geneva conference.”

However, he said if the conference’s organizers “will insist the government and the opposition should be involved in the forum, Kurds will be part of the opposition”.

About three millions of Kurds represent 15 percent of the Syrian population. In November it was announced to create the Council of Western Kurdistan and to form an interim civil administration in three regions in the north and northwest of Syria - Afrin, Kuban and Al Hasek where Kurds live. Kurds’ defence forces conduct armed actions against extremist groups linked with Al Qaeda in areas bordering Turkey and Iraq.
