KIEV, December 13. /ITAR-TASS/. Pro-European protesters who are rallying on Independence Square in Kiev on Friday voted for participation of opposition representatives in a national roundtable meeting to be held under the motto “Let’s Unite Ukraine” to search for ways out of the political crisis. In this way, the protesters gave a mandate to opposition leaders to start talks with the authorities.

On Thursday, one of the opposition’s leaders, head of parliamentary faction of the Batkivshchina party Arseny Yatsenyuk stated that Ukrainian opposition wouldn’t hold talks with the country’s authorities until it receives approval from the protesters rallying at the Independence Square in Kiev.

 

Leader of the nationalist party Svoboda (“Freedom”) Oleg Tyagnibok said that “any kind of decision on further steps including the possible talks with authorities without the consent of the rally’s participants and without the fulfillment of demands put forward before is impossible.”

On Wednesday, Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovich urged “representatives of all political powers, priests and community leaders” to a nationwide dialogue. “In order to reach a compromise, I appeal to the opposition not to reject, not to wend the way of confrontation and ultimatums,” Yanukovich said. “I have repeatedly pointed out that the only possible way is the path of reconciliation and understanding. Actions of all parties must be carried out exclusively in concordance with laws and the Constitution of Ukraine.”

Ukrainian President promised that he would personally take part in a “round table”.
