BEIJING, December 05. /ITAR-TASS/. The visit of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich to China is going according to the plan, the Chinese Foreign Ministry told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

“The visit schedule for Thursday has not been changed,” the ministry said.

Yanukovich, who is on a state visit to China, on Thursday afternoon will hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and meet with Premier of the Chinese State Council Li Keqiang.

According to previous reports of Ukraine’s UNIAN news agency, leader of the UDAR (Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform) party Vitali Klitschko stated that the Ukrainian opposition had requested the Chinese leadership not to hold meetings with Viktor Yanukovich.

In the morning, Yanukovich has taken part in a Chinese-Ukrainian trade and investment forum, attended by some 500 businessmen from both sides. Next, Yanukovich is to visit Radio China International, according to the schedule.

Priority at Thursday’s summit-level meetings, the Ukrainian presidential press service has reported, will be given to the development of Ukrainian-Chinese co-operation, primarily in the trade-economic, investment, finance and credit, energy, agrarian and scientific-technical spheres. The sides are expected to sign a Treaty of Friendship and Co-operation, the Strategic Partnership Program for 2013-2017, as well as a number of documents on co-operation in the energy sector, in aircraft building and agriculture.

In the view of the Ukrainian leadership, the development of trade-economic co-operation with China is a key component of Ukrainian-Chinese relations. In 2012, the sides reached the bilateral trade volume of 10 billion U.S. dollars, in accordance with their agreement. Kiev is also interested in the further intensification of high-level political contacts with Beijing.
