"None of the opposition leaders challenged the Ukrainian government’s estimates that association with the EU would be pernicious for the Ukrainian economy," Russian Representative to EU said

BRUSSELS, December 02. /ITAR-TASS/. The latest events in Ukraine show that Eastern Partnership is an “overly politicized project,” Russian Permanent Representative to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov said.

“What is happening in Kiev provides direct proof that this whole project is politicized. None of the opposition leaders challenged the Ukrainian government’s estimates that association with the EU would be pernicious for the Ukrainian economy. No one in the opposition offered alternative estimates, only political slogans,” he said at a roundtable on Eastern Partnership held at the European Parliament on Monday, December 2.

Chizhov stressed that Catherine Ashton, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fuele had spoken in their joint statement about “the excessive use of force” to disperse peaceful protesters in Kiev.

“I don’t know whether one can regard as peaceful demonstrators who throw stones at police. Ashton and Fuele ended (their statement) by demanding an investigation even though it is not quite clear what kind of investigation they insist on if they have already made all conclusions on the disproportional use of force,” Chizhov said.
