Thailand’s former Prime Minister ready to lead protest movement if current leader arrested
Bangkok court issued order for his arrest; however, the opposition leader is still at large
BANGKOK, November 29. /ITAR-TASS/. After five days of protests and rallies on the streets of Thailand’s capital which blocked buildings of several governmental agencies, former Prime Minister (2008-2011) Abhisit Vejjajiva has joined the opposition.
Leader of the parliamentary opposition joined demonstrators during the rally at the Asok metro station, located in the city’s business district. The convoy of several thousand people, along with Vejjajiva, walked towards the US embassy and offices of the ruling party Pheu Thai, which backs the current prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra.
Vejjajiva announced that if the current leader of the protest movement, Suthep Thaugsuban, is arrested, that he will take his place. The order for arrest of latter was issued November 25, however, the oppositionist figurehead is still at large. Three weeks ago he denounced his status as a deputy in order to organize the protests.
