South Korea requests North to hold meeting of subcommittees on Kaesong Complex
Subcommittees on transfer of the complex’s employees, communication and customs control are expected to meet
SEOUL, November 26. /ITAR-TASS/. South Korea has requested North Korea to hold a meeting of subcommittees of joint committee responsible for managing the Kaesong Industrial Complex, South Korea’s public broadcaster KBS said on Tuesday.
Subcommittees on transfer of the complex’s employees, communication and customs control are expected to meet.
On November 25, Seoul sent its request to the North Korean office of the joint committee on the Kaesong Industrial Complex. However, North Korea gave no reply, South Korea’s Ministry of Unification said.
“The official request was sent on Monday, but we have received no reply so far,” a representative of the Ministry of Unification responsible for all issues in relations between the two Koreas.
Last time the subcommittees held their meeting on September 13.
At this meeting of the subcommittees the North and the South will discuss how to improve communication means and simplify procedures necessary for entry, departure and stay of South Korean employees on the territory of the Kaesong Industrial Complex.
The Kaesong Industrial Complex, which lies just inside North Korea, is home to 123 South Korean factories which employ more than 50,000 North Korean workers.
