TEL AVIV, November 26, 5:47 /ITAR-TASS/. Russian-Israeli millionaire businessman Arcadi Gaydamak was arrested in Switzerland several days ago, The Jerusalem Post said Tuesday quoting a report on Israel’s Channel 2.
The story about the arrest of the man, who conducts business operations in Russia, Israel and France, was confirmed to Israeli reporters by the Swiss police. Spokespeople said he had been arrested on a warrant issued in Luxembourg.
Police said Gaydamak was kept in custody in Zurich where he had come for an arbitration of one of his business transactions. Nothing was reported about the reasons for his arrest.
In 2000, charges with illegal supplied of weaponry to Angola in the period of 1993 through to 1998 were issued to Gaydamak in France and a Paris court sentenced him to six years in jail in 2009.
The sentence was mitigated to three years by a court of appeals in Paris in April 2011.
