MOSCOW, November 18, /ITAR-TASS/. Russia and India have agreed to conduct a joint naval exercise in the Sea of Japan in 2014.

“Next year we suggest holding a bilateral naval exercise in the Sea of Japan, in the Peter the Great Gulf,” Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu said while opening the 13th meeting of the Russian-Indian intergovernmental military and technical commission. He also expressed hope for a constructive dialogue over military cooperation by all arms and services on land, on the high seas and in the air.

Shoigu added this year the two countries had carried out joint military exercise to practice operations against international terrorism - one of the main current threats to security worldwide.

India’s Defence Minister Arackaparambil Kurien Antony approved of his Russian counterpart’s suggestion and spoke in favour of extending cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces.
