Haiyan typhoon destroyed over 160,000 houses in the Philippines
The number of casualties soon to reach 4,000 according to the UN
UN, November 15. (ITAR-TASS) The Haiyan typhoon has damaged over 300,000 houses in the Philippines; over half of them are completely annihilated, said John Ging, Director of the Operation Division for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
John Ging has voiced figures on the situation in the Philippines which were provided by the country’s authorities and the UN team working on site with United Nations Humanitarian chief Valerie Amos.
Ging said that currently the government of the Philippines is evaluating the number of casualties to be in the range of 3600, however, they expect it rise to 4,000.
The UN official also added that the number of people affected by the natural disaster is estimated to be around 13 million people. 1.9 people have been relocated to over 1200 evacuation centers which were opened in affected regions. Ging assured that the United Nations are doing whatever they can in order to assist with rescue and recovery efforts in the wake of the typhoon.
