Typhoon Haiyan does not disrupt holiday plans of Russian tourists
Tour operators noted, however, that companies were receiving a lot of telephone calls from alarmed tourists planning to go to China or Vietnam shortly
MOSCOW, November 12, 11:39 /ITAR-TASS/. Super Typhoon Haiyan has not hit the Chinese and Vietnamese resorts popular with Russian tourists, sources from the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) told Tass on Tuesday.
They said China’s Hainan Island, where several hundred Russian tourists were holidaying at the moment, saw only an echo of the powerful typhoon. It was rainy and windy on the island, but the situation was stable, the sources said, adding that there had been no long delays in flights or information about their cancellation.
The sources said none of the Russians on a holiday on the island had expressed the wish to break the holiday and get back home ahead of time. “Excursions are being canceled in such weather, but this does not mean people are trapped in their hotel rooms because of the weather,” a representative from a tour company said, adding that tourists could freely leave their hotels.
Tour operators noted, however, that companies were receiving a lot of telephone calls from alarmed tourists planning to go to China or Vietnam shortly.
“We are reassuring our clients, givel them the real information that we receive from our partners. As of the present moment, everything is stable in the regions affected by Typhoon Haiyan. The tourists are absolutely safe,” an ATOR source said.
