PRAETORIA, October 28. (Itar-Tass) A rescue operation involving a whale stuck at a wharf successfully concluded on Monday in Cape Town. Craig Lambinon, spokesman for the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSR), outlined the incident: the whale “appeared too disorientated to move backwards to where the gap between the ship and the quay widened and [it] continually ... wedged itself up against the ship and the quayside where the ship's side was pressed hard against the quayside."

At this time it’s not clear why the nine-meter baby whale swam into the harbor; the rescue operation took several hours. The baby whale also hit the tires on the quay and hurt himself pretty badly. He was not responsive when rescue workers urged him to leave the dangerous area, even after being nudged in the direction of open waters.

A tugboat “Merlot” saved the day. The small ship for some reason attracted the animal, who followed the tugboat to the harbor’s exit, where the whale managed to get to open waters, after “Merlot” was given orders to lead the animal into the ocean

Cape Town scientists vowed to oversee the baby whale and keep him out of harm’s way – it seems that the gentle giant has lost its mother.
