Russia concerned over Baltic states’ glorification of Nazism
It leads to deliberate heating up of extremist feelings, nationalism, xenophobia, antisemitism, racial and religious hatred, Russian offical says
MOSCOW, September 20 (Itar-Tass) - Russia has expressed concern over the Baltic states’ glorification of the Nazis and their supporters, the Foreign Ministry’s envoy for human rights, democracy and supremacy of law, Konstantin Dolgov, said on Friday.
“Glorification of the Nazis is a strong factor for the deliberate heating up of extremist feelings, nationalism, xenophobia, anti-semitism, racial and religious hatred,” he said in his opening remarks to the regional conference of Russian compatriots from the Baltic states in Tallinn on Friday.
Russia considers it “impermissible to justify annual Waffen SS Legion marches in Riga and meetings of veterans of the 20th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS in Estonia dishonouring Europe and insulting the memory of those who died defending the world from Nazism,” Dolgov said.
“It is remarkable enough that when we ask our EU partners these questions, they just complain that they have no powers for monitoring the human rights situation within the European Union,” the diplomat said.
