Julian Assange fails election to Australian Senate

The election to the Senate featured candidates from 39 parties and unions

Sydney, September 8 (Itar-Tass) - Founder of the WikiLeaks resource and of the Australian party, carrying the same name, Julian Assange has failed the election to the Senate of Australia’s federal parliament, the early results say.

The calculation of the ballots demonstrates that in Victoria State Assange was supported by 1.18 percent of the vote - 25.666 people chose to support him.

The election to the Senate featured candidates from 39 parties and unions.

Julian Assange was not present at the election, as he continues to shelter inside Ecuador’s embassy in London.
