Arab parties ready to cooperate with Eisenkot but will not join cabinet
According to the Joint List leader Yousef Jabareen, the Israeli opposition will need the Arab lawmakers’ support not to let Benjamin Netanyahu take office as prime minister again
BEIRUT, November 8. /TASS/. The Joint List, a coalition of Arab parties that has won 19 seat in Israel’s parliament, is ready to cooperate with the opposition Israeli leader Gadi Eisenkot, who has been mandated to form a new government, Joint List leader Yousef Jabareen said.
"We held informal consultations and heard positive remarks from Eisenkot's representatives in response to the issues of concern to the Arab population," he told the Al Jazeera television channel. "We will cooperate with him, but we will not join the government."
According to Jabareen, the Israeli opposition will need the Arab lawmakers’ support not to let Benjamin Netanyahu take office as prime minister again. Israel is now seeing a historic moment that may open up a path to serious political changes.
"It will be difficult for Eisenkot to promote his program in Knesset (Israeli parliament - TASS) without coordination with the Joint List," he stressed.
Among the key demands of the Arab population, Jabareen cited improving social services and increasing funding for municipalities, educational institutions, and youth programs, as well as combating crime.
Earlier, Israeli President Isaac Herzog mandated Yashar opposition party leader Gadi Eisenkot to form a new government following the October 27 parliamentary elections. The decision to ask Eisenkot to form a new government was made following consultations with delegations from all parties that won seats in parliament in the recent elections.
