WASHINGTON, November 7. /TASS/. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is preparing to run in the 2028 US presidential election, according to The Washington Post (WP).

It quoted sources as saying that DeSantis plans to seek the Republican Party’s nomination and has already approached at least one political consultant with a proposal to participate in his election campaign. The political committee supporting the governor has begun raising funds.

DeSantis’s supporters said he considered it possible to seek the highest office anew in light of the Republicans’ resounding failure in the November 3 midterm elections - the GOP will lose control over both houses of Congress, with the Democrats gaining a majority in both. Florida is among the states where the Republicans’ position remained strong. DeSantis participated in the 2024 presidential race but withdrew to support Donald Trump.

Trump has previously said he sees current Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as the ideal candidates to lead the country after his presidential term. He is sure that their tandem would be unbeatable in the 2028 election. Trump did not specify what position he would like to see each of them in. Vance did not rule out running for president in 2028.
