US should expand cooperation with Russia in areas of interest — presidential candidate

WASHINGTON, November 6. /TASS/. The United States and Russia should develop cooperation in space, step up cultural exchanges, and, more broadly, expand engagement on issues of mutual interest, Diane Sare, who announced in January that she would run as an independent candidate in the 2028 US presidential election, has told TASS.
Commenting on the results of the US midterm congressional elections, she suggested that US-Russia relations will likely suffer under a Democratic majority, acknowledging that there is an anti-Russian hysteria within the Democratic Party.
"At the same time, I have noticed that people are now more open to alternative viewpoints than they were just a few years ago. Public trust in both parties is at an all-time low. However, it is difficult to say what impact a Democratic majority in Congress will have on President Donald Trump, who does not seem overly concerned by congressional opposition to his policy agenda," Sare emphasized.
"I believe that the United States and Russia should work to expand areas of common interest. The collaboration of our space programs has been productive and should be expanded. We should also encourage cultural exchanges," Sare stated, adding that the US Department of Energy is doing more to promote nuclear energy, while Russia is making significant strides in fourth-generation high-temperature reactors.
"This would be another good area for partnership," she noted, also speaking in favor of constructing a tunnel beneath the Bering Strait - a project that "would usefully orient the United States toward Russia and Asia, away from the backward European economies."
"I would very much like to see the United States abandon the anti-American notion of global hegemony and instead collaborate with Russia and China on the development of Africa and South America. We are shooting ourselves in the foot by antagonizing the entire world - not to mention the people who are dying as a result of our policies," Sare concluded.
Midterm elections took place in the United States on November 3. The contests primarily involved one-third of the Senate and the entire House of Representatives, as well as the election of governors in 36 states and territories. Local government elections were also held. Both houses of Congress are currently under Republican control. The next, 120th Congress, formed based on the election results - will begin its work on January 3, 2027. Democrats will hold the majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
