Khamenei’s adviser warns Yerevan not to cross Iran's red line on Trump route
Ali Akbar Velayati blasted last week’s move by the Armenian parliament to approve the construction of the corridor
TUNIS, November 5. /TASS/. Ali Akbar Velayati, adviser on international affairs to Iran's supreme leader, has warned Yerevan that Tehran still sees the creation of Trump's Route for International Peace and Prosperity as a red line not to be crossed, according to newspaper Ettelaat.
He also blasted last week’s move by the Armenian parliament to approve the construction of the corridor.
"I told the Armenian ambassador directly: if [US President Donald] Trump and his allies try to cross this red line of Iran's, we will break their legs," Velayati wrote in a story he contributed to the paper.
He also said that during meetings with the presidents of Turkey and Russia, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin, in Tehran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said directly that Iran "is against the creation of the Zangezur corridor." According to the adviser, the late leader’s strategic guidelines for foreign policy and national interests "are a red line for the Islamic Republic of Iran."
On August 8, 2025, after a meeting with Trump in Washington, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a declaration on a peaceful settlement between Baku and Yerevan and the creation of a transport corridor between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan. This project was named "Trump’s Route for International Peace and Prosperity."
On April 2, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said in an interview with TASS that the Trump Route agreement disrupted regional balance in the South Caucasus.
On October 28, the Armenian parliament ratified the framework agreement on strategic partnership with the United States on the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity project.
