Opposition accuses Paraguay's president of illicit enrichment after bank collapse
The bank's client base is estimated at approximately 3 million people
BUENOS AIRES, November 5. /TASS/. Opposition senators have filed a complaint with the Prosecutor General's Office, accusing Paraguay’s President Santiago Pena of illicit enrichment stemming from the scandal surrounding digital bank Ueno Bank, where accounts belonging to approximately 3 million clients have been frozen, ABC Color newspaper reports.
According to the newspaper, the senators' complaint also includes accusations against Paraguay's Minister of Economy, Oscar Lovera, and the leadership of the country's central bank.
Currently, the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Paraguay is already reviewing a request to initiate impeachment proceedings against Pena due to an alleged conflict of interest in the Ueno Bank situation.
Earlier, the Central Bank of Paraguay placed Ueno Bank under external administration, resulting in the freezing of depositors' funds. The bank's client base is estimated at approximately 3 million people. The total population of Paraguay is 7 million.
