US ambassador to India may take over as Secretary of State — media
Sergio Gor denied such job aspirations, calling such reports "complete and total bullshit"
WASHINGTON, November 5. /TASS/. US special envoy for South and Central Asia and Ambassador to India Sergio Gor may be offered a senior position in the US administration, including the office of the US Secretary of State or the White House chief of staff, The Washington Sun news portal reported on Wednesday, citing sources.
"Gor is being discussed in [US President Donald] Trump’s circles as a candidate for senior administration positions for the second half of the president’s term," it said, adding that sources "familiar with internal conversations said they’ve heard Gor’s name come up as a possibility for a number of powerful jobs, including White House chief of staff and taking over for [Marco] Rubio as Secretary of State."
According to media reports, Gor was born in Tashkent in 1986 and was given the name Sergey Gorokhovsky at birth.
Gor, according to The Washington Sun, is a "close Trump ally," "a key power broker between Washington and much of Asia, and as a confidante to Secretary of State Marco Rubio."
The portal states however that "neither Rubio nor White House chief of staff Susie Wiles have publicly indicated any intention of leaving the administration," although "some at State and in Republican political circles believe Rubio may leave the Cabinet to prepare for a future run for president in 2028 or 2032." Moreover, Gor is said to be "interested in such a promotion."
Meanwhile, he denied such job aspirations, calling such reports "complete and total bullshit." "Secretary Marco Rubio has proven to be the most qualified, accomplished and greatest secretary of state in history. He is irreplaceable," he told The Washington Sun, adding that he has "zero interest in any other role."
The White House also refuted these reports.
The US Department of State has not yet responded to a TASS inquiry.
