Trump to block Democrats’ legislative efforts in event of their election win — source
A former member of Donald Trump’s transition team said that, in this instance, policies will be increasingly driven by the president's actions
WASHINGTON, November 4. /TASS/. The legislative activity of the US Congress will be paralyzed if the Democrats win the current midterm elections, while Washington’s policy will be shaped primarily by the actions of Republican President Donald Trump, a former senior US administration official and a former member of Trump’s transition team told TASS.
"If the midterm elections give Democrats control of both the House and Senate, expect little legislative activity in the 120th Congress. Democrats may be able to pass legislation, but that legislation won't become law without negotiating with President Trump and securing his signature," said the retired high-ranking US official.
"Policy will increasingly be driven by presidential executive orders, regulatory actions, and memoranda. Congressional Democrats, meanwhile, will devote much of their attention to investigations and oversight of the executive branch," he added.
The United States is holding its midterm congressional elections, with one-third of the Senate and all seats in the House of Representatives contested. Voters are also electing governors in 36 states and territories. Republicans currently control both chambers of Congress. The next Congress, which will be formed following the elections, will begin its work on January 3, 2027.
